Towers and Air Cooled Condensers
Many industries are using steam, water or other cooling fl uids that need
to be cooled down for reuse of the fl uid in the process or for temperature
limitations on waste water.
Typically cooling tower users can be found in power generation plants
and in the chemical industry. In environments where water resource
is regularly present, the ‘wet’ cooling tower principle will mainly be
used. In dry environments where water resources are scarce, Air Cooled
Condensers (ACC) are ideal.

In an air cooled condenser, hot water or steam is guided through a closed circuit. A fan pushes the air
through a huge heat exchanger. The cooling fan is typically driven via a vertical gearbox with parallel shafts.

The unique brake design for Hansen M4ACC gear units
allows the user to safely slow down the gear unit and
condenser fan, and keep them at standstill during
maintenance activities in dry cooling towers. This way we
offer a tool to avoid the risk of maintenance personnel being
injured due to windmilling.
The Hansen M4 ACC drives are specifi cally designed for
Air Cooled Condensers in dry environments where water
resources are scarce. As a standard, these units come with
a lantern housing, allowing an alignment free connection
of a motor on the top of the gear unit.

In a Wet cooling tower, hot water is sprayed inside a relative small tower. The air is pulled
through the tower with a fan driven via typically a vertical gearbox with right angle shafts.
